Ghosts in the Library

The library really needs an update as to how various books are categorized. I know a lot of people have seen ghosts and truly believe they exist. I for one, have never seen one, except on Halloween when I also saw the devil. Most books about ghosts/spirits are in the non-fiction section. I realized this when my father in law and daughter were having an argument about whether or not they exist. My daughters argument? "They're real, because the books on ghosts/haunted houses are in the non-fiction section"!! She also found a book about rooms in the White House being haunted.

There are various kooks with ghost detecting machines that claim ghosts are part of our world. Ghosts are real in many religions as well. So if you are a devout catholic, you probably would see no issue with ghosts being classified as such. For the rest of us, please create a new genre called phenomena and stick them there. Let kids decide on their own if they believe in them or not.

* On another note, the History Channel has also been delving into fiction. There are countless shows on the network about Nostradamus, UFOS, aliens, and, yes, ghosts. Don't get me wrong, there are a myriad of educational shows here too, but they are confusing the younger generation. Please, less sci-fi, leave that to the Syfy channel.
