ABC YOU SUCK BALLS/Goodbye UB

Yes, ABC I am talking to you. How can you cancel Ugly Betty but keep other shows that are downright silly/boring? Ugly Betty is so innovative, and so many people can relate to the characters. For the first time in a long time, I looked forward to Wednesdays (then Thursdays, then Fridays, then Wednesdays again) because I knew Betty was on---which meant a dose of laughter, fashion, drama, romance and sexiness. How can you say viewership is down when so many people have DVRs? I DVR everything! And how many people in NY are you actually polling? My friends and I always have great conversations about the show the next day.

I am Betty. Right out of college, I got a job two blocks away from where Betty works. I come from the same neighborhood, Jackson Heights, where Betty lives with her family, I went to a CUNY school, as she did, I also have low self esteem and have to deal with being on an island of beautiful, judgemental people.

I love how they always showcase the latest fashions, I love the humor ("Up until a month ago he thought Cavalli was a pasta"...c'mon now- thats GOOD writing!) I love how they have hot women and men on and the diversity of the characters. Who hasn't had an evil tyrant of a boss and had to be someones b*tch and get coffee? The workplace interactions can also be realistic---who hasn't had a steamy office affair? fucked up a project? Lied to their boss? Wanted a promotion but watched as others less worthy got one? That they balance her home life and office life, and that the two sometimes intermingle makes the show have serious depth.

I will miss you, Ugly Betty and friends:

Betty- The girl who tries to do right by herself and everyone else, a hard worker, she is beautiful but doesn't know it, people have always tried to keep her down with their negative comments. Believes in love even though she has been hurt.

Hilda- The personification of a girl from Jackson Heights! Her hair is always done, and she always dresses just a little bit sultry, even if its to go see her son at school. There are many unwed moms who had a kid at an early age.

Ignacio- The rock, the caretaker and the one everyone can go to talk to about problems.

Justin- The kid who is trying to fit in, who loves fashion and gossip. Came to terms with his sexuality, which is a hard thing to do for a kid that age. I am sure his on screen kiss gave hope to confused gay teens watching the show.

Amanda- we all know her, the impossibly hot girl who can get any man she wants, is a bit conceited and catty because of it, and uses her looks and charm to get ahead. Deep down, she knows she won't have her looks forever and is starting to work on her inner self.

Mark- The flamboyant best friend to Amanda. He wants to hate Betty, but really likes her. Always gets stuck doing Wilhelmina's dirty work. Dresses right from the pages of GQ- takes risks (but they work!)

Daniel- The playboy/boss. Who hasn't known a guy like this? He can get any woman he wants, but deep down he needs someone to take care of him. Despite his good looks, has very low self esteem. A boss that will also be your cheerleader and your friend.

Wilhelmina- The boss who expects nothing but the best, will tell you when you've made a mistake, take you off projects and humiliate you no matter who is around. The one everyone is afraid of and few dare talk back to.

Here is my take on what should happen as we near the end of this fabulous show: Daniel will realize Amanda is nothing more than a fling, there is no substance there. What they have is purely physical. Once Betty's braces are off, he will realize that he has been in love with her all along, she always stood by him, professionally and personally. They will have a long, passionate kiss/sex scene. Amanda will want to be more like Betty, in more ways than one, and will quit to do work that is more meaningful, Mark will get a promotion and be on Betty's level, Claire will retire and the company will be run by both Daniel and Wilhelmina, Hilda will get married, Justin will meet a boy at the wedding. Ignacio will sell the house, and since Hilda and Betty have their own places, he will get a small apartment in Brooklyn so he can be near both Betty and Hilda.
